IIT Guwahati’s Impactful Collaboration: Driving Innovation and Sustainable Development in Northeast India

IIT Guwahati, in partnership with Skill Development of India and MSME, recently conducted a five-day workshop on ‘Design Thinking in Industry Development’. The workshop aimed to promote innovation and sustainable development in Northeast India. Among the 30 participants was Mr. Abu Mahmud Abdullah, a representative from the Barak valley region under the Banner of Green Business Initiative LLP (GBI). Mr. Abdullah actively contributed his ideas and expertise towards advancing innovation strategies for the region’s sustainable growth. This collaborative effort between academia, industry, and government entities underscores a commitment to leveraging design thinking principles to drive economic progress and industrial development in the Northeast.

The workshop, held at the prestigious Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati, brought together experts, practitioners, and stakeholders to explore the application of design thinking in addressing the unique challenges faced by industries in the Northeast region. With its diverse ecosystem and rich cultural heritage, the Northeast presents a fertile ground for innovation and development. However, limited access to resources, infrastructure bottlenecks, and geographical constraints have often hindered the region’s economic growth.

Recognizing the need for a holistic approach to address these challenges, IIT Guwahati collaborated with Skill Development of India and MSME to organize the workshop. The objective was to equip participants with the tools, techniques, and mindset required to foster innovation and drive sustainable development in the region. Through a series of interactive sessions, case studies, and hands-on activities, participants gained insights into the principles of design thinking and its application in industry development.

Mr. Abdullah, representing the Green Business Initiative LLP (GBI), brought valuable perspectives to the workshop. As a champion of sustainability and environmental stewardship, Mr. Abdullah shared insights into how design thinking can be leveraged to promote green practices and eco-friendly solutions in industries across the Barak valley region. His expertise and passion resonated with other participants, sparking discussions on incorporating sustainability into business models and supply chains.
